Backup and disaster recovery in Omaha

Backups for your servers, PCs and Microsoft 365 that we test by restoring, plus a written plan for getting back to work if something fails. When a drive dies, ransomware hits or someone deletes the wrong folder, you want a restore, not a surprise.

Tested backups and a written plan, from a local team in Omaha since 2009.

What we back up

The places your business data actually lives.

Servers

On-site servers and shared files, with a copy kept off-site and away from the office network.

PCs and laptops

Desktops and laptops, so a failed, lost or stolen computer doesn’t take the only copy of someone’s work with it.

Microsoft 365

Email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams files, backed up separately from Microsoft 365 itself.

Backups we test, not just schedule

A backup report that says a job succeeded only means the software finished running. It doesn’t mean the files will open when you need them. We set backups up so they hold up on a bad day:

  • Test restores: we restore files on a regular schedule and check that they open.
  • An off-site copy: at least one copy kept away from your office network, so ransomware that reaches your computers can’t reach every copy.
  • Older versions kept: retention long enough to get back a file that was deleted or damaged before anyone noticed.
  • Known restore times: we find out how long a full restore takes before an emergency, and plan around it.

A written plan for getting back to work

No one can promise a recovery time for every disaster. What we can do is plan it with you, write it down, and test it.

  1. 1

    Decide what matters most

Which systems come back first, how much data each can afford to lose, and how long each can be down.

  2. 2

    Write it down

Who calls whom, how the office keeps working during downtime, and the steps we take to restore each system.

  3. 3

    Test and update

We test restores against the plan and update it as your business and systems change.

What it protects against

Hardware failure

A server or computer drive that dies without warning.

Ransomware

Files encrypted by an attack, restored from a clean copy kept away from your network.

Deleted or overwritten files

A folder deleted by mistake or a spreadsheet saved over, brought back from an older version.

Office disasters

Fire, water damage or a long power outage at the office, with an off-site copy to restore from.

Cloud sync is not a backup

OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams copy every change to every device, including a deleted folder or files encrypted by ransomware. Microsoft keeps deleted items for a limited time, which isn’t the same as a backup you control.

We run your Microsoft 365 day to day as part of cloud and Microsoft 365 services, and back it up separately.

We look at your setup and what you pay today, and show you what isn’t protected and what we’d fix first, in plain English. It’s free, there’s no obligation, and you keep the written summary. For backups, that includes what is backed up today and whether anyone has tested a restore.

Backup and recovery questions

How do you know our backups work?

We test them by restoring files and checking that they open, not just by reading the backup report. A report that says a job finished only means the software ran.

Isn’t OneDrive or SharePoint already a backup?

No. They sync changes across devices, including deletions and files encrypted by ransomware. Microsoft keeps deleted items for a limited time, which isn’t the same as a backup you control. We back up Microsoft 365 email and files separately.

How fast can we be back up and running?

It depends on what failed and how much data has to come back. We don’t promise a recovery time. We work out a realistic one with you for each system, write it into your recovery plan, and test against it.

Can you recover data from a failed hard drive?

Getting data off a failed drive is specialist lab work, and we don’t offer it. Our job is to make sure a failed drive means restoring from a tested backup instead.

What goes in the written recovery plan?

Which systems come back first, how much data each one can afford to lose, who calls whom, how the office keeps working while systems are down, and the steps we take to restore them.

Do backups protect us from ransomware?

A copy kept off-site and away from your office network gives you a clean copy to restore from if ransomware reaches your computers. Backups are one part of the answer. Our cybersecurity work covers the rest.
